๐ŸŒค๏ธ Don't Starve Together โ€” Complete Seasons & Survival Guide

Master every season in DST โ€” from the gentle days of Autumn to the scorching hazards of Summer. Know what's coming, prepare for it, and thrive.

Don't Starve Together's seasons are the heartbeat of the game. Each one lasts roughly 20 days (configurable in world settings), and a full year cycle is 70 days by default. Each season brings unique weather, hazards, creatures, and opportunities. Your survival depends on anticipating what's next and preparing before it arrives.

Data source: Klei Entertainment / Don't Starve Together game files (various patches). Values accurate as of current stable release.

๐Ÿ“… Season Cycle Overview

Season Days Temperature Day/Night Balance Key Hazard Key Boss

๐Ÿ‚ Autumn (Days 1โ€“20)

Autumn is the starter season โ€” the most forgiving and productive period in DST. You spawn in on Day 1 of Autumn with comfortable temperatures, long daylight hours, and no pressing environmental threats.

What to Expect

Aspect Detail
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature 10โ€“40ยฐC โ€” perfectly comfortable, no heat or cold damage
โ˜€๏ธ Day/Night ~12 min day, ~6 min dusk, ~2 min night โ€” plenty of daylight
๐ŸŒง๏ธ Precipitation Very rare, short rain showers
โš ๏ธ Hazards None (spiders, hounds, and frogs are your only concerns)

๐ŸŽฏ Key Activities

Autumn is your preparation window. Every hour spent gathering now pays off tenfold in Winter.

Gather Everything

Resource Why It Matters
๐Ÿชต Logs Fuel, structures, base building โ€” you can never have too many
๐Ÿชจ Rocks, Flint, Gold Tools, weapons, SCIENCE MACHINE (1ร— gold, 4ร— rocks)
๐ŸŒฟ Grass & Twigs Rope, torches, basic crafting โ€” stockpile at least 2 stacks each
๐Ÿซ Berries Food now and rot for fertilizer later
๐ŸŒพ Cut Reeds For papyrus (books, bird traps) from swamp biomes

Build Your Starter Base

  1. Choose a location โ€” Ideally near a road intersection with access to multiple biomes. The Pig King biome is a popular choice.
  2. Science Machine โ€” Your first build. Unlocks alchemy engine, backpack, hammer, and more.
  3. Alchemy Engine โ€” Unlocks the rest of the tech tree.
  4. Crock Pot (ร—2 minimum) โ€” The single best food-related structure. Cooks meals that restore more hunger, health, and sanity than raw ingredients.
  5. Ice Box โ€” Preserves food 4ร— longer. Essential for stockpiling.
  6. Drying Racks (ร—4โ€“8) โ€” Dry monster meat, fish, and morsels into jerky for hunger + sanity.
  7. Farm plots โ€” If you plan to garden, lay out plots now so crops mature before Winter.
  8. Campfire/Pit โ€” Upgrade to a Fire Pit as soon as possible (uses less fuel).

๐Ÿป Bearger (Spawn: Days 20โ€“25)

The Bearger arrives at the end of Autumn or early Winter. Its spawn is triggered automatically โ€” it will wander into your general area.

Stat Value
โค๏ธ HP 3000
โš”๏ธ Damage 100 (to players), 200 (to structures)
๐Ÿ˜ต Sanity Aura -400/min (increasing fear near it)
๐ŸŽ Drops 6ร— Meat, 2ร— Bearger Fur, Bearger Figure (Sketch)

Kiting Strategy

  • Pattern: Attack 6 times, then dodge its swipe
  • Weapon: Hambat (or better)
  • Armour: Log Suit + Football Helmet
  • Tip: Bearger has a huge hitbox and can be stunlocked briefly โ€” use this to get extra hits

Alternative: Let Treeguards Handle It

Lead the Bearger into a dense pine forest. It will destroy trees, spawning Treeguards that fight it. You can clean up the winner.

โš ๏ธ Warning: Bearger destroys structures. Do NOT fight it near your base. Lead it to a clearing or pre-built fighting arena.

โœ… Winter Preparation Checklist

Use the last 5 days of Autumn to tick off these items:

Item Quantity Notes
๐Ÿงฃ Thermal Stone 1โ€“2 Heat retention โ€” place near fire to warm, carry to stay warm
๐ŸŽฉ Winter Hat / Beefalo Hat 1 Beefalo Hat is best (240s of warmth)
๐Ÿฅฉ Dried Meat / Jerky 10+ Long shelf life, good hunger/sanity
๐Ÿฅ˜ Pre-cooked Meals 10+ Meatballs, Bacon & Eggs, Meaty Stew
๐Ÿชต Logs 5+ stacks Constant fuel for fires
๐Ÿฉน Healing Salves / Honey Poultices 5+ For combat healing
๐Ÿงฅ Log Suit + Football Helmet 1 each For Deerclops fight
โ„๏ธ Ice stockpile location โ€” Mark a pond biome on your map for mining ice

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip: Kill some Beefalo for their horns (to craft the Beefalo Hat). Do this before they enter mating season (Winter) when they become aggressive.

โ„๏ธ Winter (Days 21โ€“35)

Winter is the first real survival challenge. Freezing temperatures drain your health if you're not properly equipped. Hunger drains faster. Ponds freeze. Berry bushes go dormant. The nights stretch long.

What to Expect

Aspect Detail
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature Below 0ยฐC โ€” freezing damage without warm clothing
โ˜€๏ธ Day/Night ~7 min day, ~5 min dusk, ~8 min night โ€” short days
๐ŸŒง๏ธ Precipitation Snow, no rain
โš ๏ธ Hazards Freezing (constant health drain), starvation, shorter foraging time

โ„๏ธ Temperature & Warmth Mechanics

Your character has a core temperature that drops in Winter. When it drops too low:

  • Screen frosts around the edges
  • Health drains at an increasing rate
  • Movement speed slows

Staying Warm โ€” Clothing Comparison

Item Warmth Duration Materials Notes
๐ŸŽฉ Beefalo Hat 240s Beefalo Horn ร—1, Silk ร—4 Best warmth-to-slot ratio
๐Ÿงฅ Puffy Vest 180s Koalefant Trunk ร—4, Silk ร—6 Chest slot, good insulation
๐Ÿงฅ Hibearnation Vest 180s Bearger Fur ร—2, Silk ร—4 Chest slot, also slows hunger
๐ŸŽฉ Winter Hat 120s Silk ร—4, Hound's Tooth ร—2 Easy to craft, decent starter
๐Ÿ‡ Cat Cap 60s Catcoon Tail ร—4, Silk ร—2 Weak โ€” emergency only
๐Ÿงฃ Thermal Stone ~150s per heat Stone ร—10, Flint ร—3, Pickaxe Heat near fire, carry to stay warm

Thermal Stone Mastery

The Thermal Stone is your most efficient warmth tool:

  1. Heat it up โ€” Place near a fire until it's red-hot (glowing)
  2. Carry it โ€” The stone radiates heat for ~150 seconds in Winter
  3. Reheat โ€” Drop near fire when the glow fades
  4. Stacking โ€” Carry two stones; heat one while using the other

โš ๏ธ Warning:** Thermal Stones lose durability in Summer (overheat) if updated to the feature. In current DST, they don't break but cool/heat differently.

๐Ÿฒ Winter Food

Food is tighter in Winter. Your best options:

Food Source Method Notes
โ„๏ธ Ice Mine with pickaxe from frozen ponds Abundant, lasts forever, use in Crock Pot
๐Ÿง Pengulls Near coastline 2 meat each, aggressive in groups
๐Ÿ— Pig Farm Feed pigs monster meat, kill the werepigs 2 meat per pig
๐ŸฆŒ MacTusk (Walrus Camp) Hunt every 2.5 days Drops Tam o' Shanter + Walking Cane
๐ŸŸ Fishing Not possible (ponds frozen) โ€”

Ice Is Your Best Friend

Ice is a free filler ingredient for the Crock Pot. Learn these recipes:

Recipe Ingredients Effect
๐Ÿฅฃ Meatballs 1ร— Meat + 3ร— Ice 62.5 Hunger โ€” your staple food
๐ŸฅŸ Meat Dumplings 1ร— Meat + 1ร— Egg + 1ร— Veg + 1ร— Ice 37.5 Hunger + 40 Health โ€” heals
๐Ÿฅ— Honey Nuggets 1ร— Honey + 1ร— Morsel + 2ร— Ice 37.5 Hunger + 20 Health

๐Ÿฆท MacTusk & Walrus Camps

Walrus Camps spawn in Rockyland biomes during Winter. They're your most valuable resource.

Detail Info
Spawn 1 Walrus Camp per world (default)
Respawn Every 2.5 days โ€” MacTusk + 2 Hounds
MacTusk HP 100
Hound HP 100 each

๐ŸŽ MacTusk Drops: - ๐ŸŽฉ Tam o' Shanter (25%) โ€” 6.25 Sanity/min, best sanity head slot - ๐Ÿฆฏ Walking Cane (25%) โ€” 25% movement speed boost (off-hand) - ๐Ÿฅฉ Meat (always)

Farming MacTusk

  1. Approach from downwind (MacTusk prioritises running away)
  2. Kill the Hounds first (they chase, MacTusk shoots)
  3. Chase down MacTusk โ€” it has low HP and dies quickly
  4. Bring a Boomerang if it runs onto thin ice

๐ŸฆŒ Deerclops (Spawn: Days 30โ€“35)

Deerclops arrives in late Winter โ€” a massive, one-eyed giant that freezes everything around it.

Stat Value
โค๏ธ HP 4000
โš”๏ธ Damage 75 (to players), 150 (to structures)
๐Ÿ˜ต Sanity Aura -400/min
โ„๏ธ Freezing Attack Freezes everything in a cone (area of effect)
๐ŸŽ Drops 8ร— Meat, Deerclops Eyeball (crafts Eyebrella)

Kiting Strategy

  • Pattern: Attack 2โ€“3 times, then dodge the ground slam
  • Weapon: Hambat (or Dark Sword for extra damage)
  • Armour: Log Suit + Football Helmet (bring spares)
  • Space: Fight in a large open area โ€” Deerclops destroys structures and trees

Eyebrella โ€” The Key to Spring

The Deerclops Eyeball crafts the Eyebrella (at an Alchemy Engine):

Material Quantity
Deerclops Eyeball 1
Bone Shards 6
Dubloon 4

The Eyebrella provides 100% wetness resistance โ€” it's the single best item for Spring survival.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip: If you're not confident fighting Deerclops, lead it to a swamp biome. Tentacles will kill it for you. Just make sure you collect the eyeball before it despawns!

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Spring (Days 35โ€“50)

Spring is the rain season. Constant downpours drench your character, draining sanity and making everything harder. Lightning strikes randomly. Frogs fall from the sky. But it's also a season of abundance.

What to Expect

Aspect Detail
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature 10โ€“25ยฐC โ€” comfortable temp, but wet
โ˜€๏ธ Day/Night ~10 min day, ~5 min dusk, ~5 min night โ€” balanced
๐ŸŒง๏ธ Precipitation Constant rain, occasional thunderstorms
โš ๏ธ Hazards Wetness (sanity loss, freezing vulnerability), lightning, Frog Rain

๐Ÿ’ง Wetness Mechanics

When you get wet:

Wetness % Effect
0โ€“15% No penalty
15โ€“35% Sanity drain begins (slow)
35โ€“70% Faster sanity drain, movement penalty
70โ€“100% Maximum sanity drain, freezing vulnerability, tools slip

Staying Dry โ€” Rain Protection

Item Wetness Resist Materials Notes
๐Ÿชถ Eyebrella 100% Deerclops Eyeball + Bone Shards + Dubloon Perfect โ€” best in slot (repair with Deerclops Eyeball or Deconstruction Staff)
๐ŸŒ‚ Umbrella 66% Silk ร—6, Twigs ร—4 Easy to craft, decent coverage
๐ŸŽฉ Rain Hat 90% Catcoon Tail ร—2, Silk ร—4 Good but materials can be annoying
๐Ÿงฅ Rain Coat 100% Tentacle Spots ร—4, Bone Shards ร—4, Silk ร—4 Full coverage, chest slot
๐Ÿชฃ Rainometer/Umbrella Hat โ€” Crafted Not wearable โ€” it's a structure that measures rainfall

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip: You can combine a Football Helmet with an Umbrella (hold in off-hand) for ~66% wetness resist + head protection. Stack this with a Puffy Vest for the best combat setup in Spring.

โšก Lightning & WX-78

Spring thunderstorms bring lightning strikes that: - ๐Ÿ’ฅ Damage players (30 damage) unless wearing a lightning rod hat - ๐Ÿ”ฅ Ignite flammable structures โ€” always build Lightning Rods near your base - โšก Power up WX-78 โ€” WX-78 gains +100 max HP, +200 max sanity per overcharge (but still takes damage)

Protection: Build 2โ€“3 Lightning Rods around your base. They protect a generous radius and only need to be crafted once.

๐Ÿธ Frog Rain (Days 40โ€“50)

Around mid-Spring, frogs begin raining from the sky. This is both a blessing and a curse.

  • Frogs can spawn in massive numbers โ€” up to 20+ at once
  • They steal items from your inventory when they hit you
  • They attack in groups

Frog Rain Strategy

Approach How To Risk/Benefit
๐Ÿ  Stay inside Seal yourself in your base Safe but boring
๐Ÿ— Use pigs Lead frogs to pig villages Pigs fight frogs โ€” free frog legs
๐Ÿฆ† Run away Leave the loaded area Frogs despawn eventually
โš”๏ธ Harvest them Fight with a spear, collect legs Massive food (each frog = 1 frog leg)

Reward: Each frog drops a Frog Leg (cooks into 12.5 hunger, 5 health). A good frog rain can yield 2+ stacks โ€” that's unlimited food for the rest of Spring.

๐Ÿฆ† Moose/Goose & Moslings

The Moose/Goose is a giant bird that appears in Spring, nesting in grassy areas.

Stat Value
โค๏ธ HP 3000
โš”๏ธ Damage 75 (melee), 200 (honk blast)
๐ŸŽ Drops 4ร— Drumstick, 2ร— Feather, Moose/Goose Figure (Sketch)

Fighting Moose/Goose

  • Kiting: Attack 4โ€“5 times, dodge the honk (ground-pounding AOE)
  • Weakness: It's slow and telegraphs attacks
  • Danger: The honk blast hits in a huge radius โ€” back away when it rears up

Moslings (Eggs)

The Moose/Goose nest contains 2โ€“3 Mosling Eggs: - Hatch in ~3 days if kept warm (near a fire) - Moslings follow you and fight for you - Grow into Moose/Goose after ~12 days (if not killed) - Use: Excellent early-game bodyguard. Moslings deal ~25 damage per hit.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip: Pick up Mosling Eggs and keep them near a campfire to hatch. The Mosling will follow and fight for you โ€” it's like having a free tank for exploring the ruins!

๐ŸŒป Spring Activities

Activity Why It's Great in Spring
๐Ÿ Bee Farming Flowers bloom everywhere โ€” bees produce constantly
๐ŸŒฑ Farming Rain waters crops automatically โ€” best season for farming
๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ Cave Exploration No freeze, no overheat โ€” comfortable underground
๐Ÿ”ฎ Magic Crafting Longer dusk gives more shadow fuel collection time

โ˜€๏ธ Summer (Days 50โ€“70)

Summer is the second major survival challenge. Overheating burns your health. Wildfires destroy your base. Days are brutally long. You'll stay alive only if you prepared in the previous seasons.

What to Expect

Aspect Detail
๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature 35โ€“80ยฐC โ€” overheating damage without cooling
โ˜€๏ธ Day/Night ~16 min day, ~4 min dusk, ~0 min night โ€” almost no darkness
๐ŸŒง๏ธ Precipitation None โ€” bone dry
โš ๏ธ Hazards Overheating (health drain), Wildfires (smoldering), Antlion sinkholes

๐Ÿ”ฅ Overheating Mechanics

When your core temperature gets too high:

  • Screen shimmers with heat waves
  • Health drains at an increasing rate
  • Food spoils faster
  • Ice melts in your inventory

Cooling Down โ€” Methods

Method Cooling Effect Notes
๐Ÿ”ต Endothermic Fire Pit Strong cooling (area) Build with ice + logs โ€” use near base
๐Ÿ”ต Endothermic Campfire Moderate cooling (area) Portable, same recipe, lasts less time
๐ŸงŠ Chilled Thermal Stone ~150s cooling Place thermal stone near Endothermic Fire or drop ice on it
๐Ÿ’Ž Chilled Amulet Constant cooling Craft at Shadow Manipulator (1ร— Red Gem, 3ร— Nightmare Fuel, 2ร— Gold)
โ„๏ธ Ice Cube Hat Head slot cooling Melts over time, refreeze in fridge

Endothermic Fire Recipe

1ร— Ice + 2ร— Logs โ†’ Endothermic Fire Pit

Thermal Stone Cooling

  1. Heat your Thermal Stone near a normal fire
  2. Drop it on the ground near ice or in a fridge briefly
  3. Wait โ€” it turns from red โ†’ white โ†’ blue (cooled)
  4. Carry the blue stone โ€” it absorbs ambient heat and keeps you ~20ยฐC cooler

โš ๏ธ Warning: A red-hot Thermal Stone carried into Summer will overheat you faster. Always cool it down first at an Endothermic Fire.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Wildfires (Smoldering)

Starting in Summer, flammable structures and items can spontaneously smolder and catch fire.

Flammable Risk Level
๐Ÿชต Trees High โ€” especially dry/diseased trees
๐ŸŒฟ Grass Tufts / Saplings Medium
๐Ÿงฑ Wood Walls / Floors High
๐Ÿ—ฟ Stone structures None (mostly fireproof)
๐Ÿชจ Rock Walls None

Smoldering Stages

  1. Smoke appears above the item โ€” you have ~10 seconds to act
  2. Fire erupts โ€” spreads to nearby flammable objects
  3. Destruction โ€” the item burns to ash

Stopping Wildfires

Method How To Notes
๐ŸงŠ Ice Flingomatic Automatically extinguishes fires in range Must be fueled (ice, snowballs) โ€” 5-tile radius
โ›ฒ Water Balloon Throw to douse single item Craft with water + berries
๐Ÿช“ Chop it down Remove smoldering trees/grass before they ignite Rush job, might still catch fire
๐Ÿ’ง Ice on ground Drop ice on smoldering items Consumes ice quickly (not recommended for large fires)

Ice Flingomatic Setup

  1. Craft at Alchemy Engine: (2ร— Gears, 2ร— Ice, 1ร— Electrical Doodad)
  2. Place covering your entire base (a circle ~5 tiles radius)
  3. Fuel with ice or snowballs โ€” each ice lasts ~2.5 days
  4. Toggle ON โ€” you can turn it off when away from base (to save fuel)

Build 2โ€“3 Ice Flingomatics to cover a large base completely.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip: Stone and marble structures don't burn. Prioritise stone walls and foundations near critical structures if you can't cover everything with Flingomatics.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Antlion (Spawn: Days 55โ€“70)

The Antlion appears in the Desert biome during Summer. Unlike other bosses, you can appease it instead of fighting.

Stat Value
โค๏ธ HP 3000
โš”๏ธ Damage 75 (melee), 150 (sand spike)
โš ๏ธ Spawn Effect Causes sinkholes and desert earthquakes if angered

Sinkhole Mechanics

If you don't appease the Antlion, it triggers sinkholes near your base: - Sinkholes destroy structures - They open randomly in loaded areas - Frequency increases the longer you ignore it

Appeasing the Antlion

Give the Antlion one of these items at its sinkhole:

Item Effect Availability
๐ŸŽช Trinkets 1 trinket = ~4 days of peace Found in tumbleweeds, graves
โš™๏ธ Spare Gears 1 gear = ~6 days Clockwork enemies in ruins
๐Ÿฒ Any Food 4 food = 1 day Weak โ€” not worth it after early game

Fighting Antlion (If You Prefer)

  1. Lure it out of its sinkhole with a ranged attack
  2. Kiting: Attack 3 times, dodge sand spikes (they telegraph)
  3. Avoid: The ground-shaking AOE โ€” move away when it rears up
  4. Warning: Antlion's spikes are faster than they look

Drops: Desert Stone Golem (mount item), 4ร— Meat, Antlion Figure (Sketch)

๐Ÿ‰ Dragonfly (Lava Biome Boss)

Dragonfly is technically accessible year-round but most often fought in Summer because the extreme heat is already part of the environment.

Stat Value
โค๏ธ HP 27,500
โš”๏ธ Damage 75 (melee), 300 (fire blast)
๐ŸŽ Drops 8ร— Meat, Dragonfly Scales (crafts Scalemail + Fireproof armour)

๐Ÿ“ Note: Dragonfly is more of a dedicated boss fight than a seasonal event. See the Bosses & Giants page for detailed strategies.

๐Ÿ  Base Location Tips for Summer

Strategy How To Effectiveness
๐Ÿ๏ธ Oasis biome Build in the Desert Oasis Pond keeps area cool, Antlion is nearby for appeasing
๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ Underground base Move operations to caves No overheating at all โ€” but no rain and no surface resources
๐ŸŒฒ Forest shade Build among dense trees Trees provide some shade cooling (minor)
๐Ÿชจ Rockyland Build with stone foundations Stone doesn't burn โ€” safer from wildfires
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Near water Coast/pond proximity Water bodies radiate minor cooling (very minor)

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip for Beginners: The Oasis Desert is the safest Summer base location. The lake keeps the area cooler, tumbleweeds provide infinite trinkets for Antlion appeasement, and the Antlion itself is right there to manage.

๐Ÿ”„ Season Transition Checklist

Transition Days Until Must Have Nice to Have
๐Ÿ‚โ†’โ„๏ธ Autumnโ†’Winter ~5 days warning Thermal Stone, Winter Hat/Beefalo Hat, 5+ log stacks, dried food Walking Cane, MacTusk location known

๐Ÿ— Guardian Pig Any Any time Destroy Ruins gates Ruins (caves)
๐Ÿ’€ Fuelweaver Any Any time Insert Atrium. Key structures Deep Caves (Atrium)

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tips for Each Season

๐Ÿ‚ Autumn Pro Tips

  1. Kill Koalefant ASAP โ€” The trunk crafts the Puffy Vest, best-insulation chest slot for Winter. Track its footprints early.
  2. Mark ice ponds on your map โ€” You'll need to know where to mine ice in Winter. Visit every pond biome and drop a marker.
  3. Make a Bird Trap โ€” Catch a crow, build a bird cage. Feed it cooked monster meat for eggs. Eggs never spoil and are amazing Crock Pot filler.
  4. Kill spiders for silk โ€” You need 14 silk for a Top Hat (sanity) + all the drying racks and winter clothes. Clear spider dens early.

โ„๏ธ Winter Pro Tips

  1. Double-carry Thermal Stones โ€” Keep one in the fire and one on you. When yours cools, swap and reheat the cold one.
  2. MacTusk is THE priority โ€” The Tam o' Shanter and Walking Cane are game-changing. Hunt Walrus Camps on cooldown (every 2.5 days).
  3. Don't explore too far โ€” Short days mean long nights. Stay near your base or bring enough light sources for the full night.
  4. Ice mining marathon โ€” On the last day of Winter, mine ALL the ice you can carry. Store it in fridges for Summer cooling and year-round Crock Pot filler.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ Spring Pro Tips

  1. Eyebrella > everything โ€” If you killed Deerclops, the Eyebrella is your #1 Spring item. 100% wetness resist means no sanity loss from rain. Repair it with Deconstruction Staff or another Eyeball.
  2. Prepare bee boxes now โ€” Spring flowers bloom everywhere. Set up 4โ€“6 bee boxes for year-round honey (infinite Crock Pot filler + healing).
  3. Frog rain = unlimited food โ€” Don't hide from it. Gear up and fight in an open field. Collect 30+ frog legs by kiting them one by one.
  4. Explore caves โ€” Spring is the best time to descend into caves. Surface is wet but caves are dry and comfortable.

โ˜€๏ธ Summer Pro Tips

  1. Ice Flingomatic placement matters โ€” Space them so their 5-tile radii overlap at your base center. Use the geometric placement mod or measure with turf tiles.
  2. Oasis base is best โ€” If you can, move a secondary camp to the Oasis Desert for Summer. It's cooler, has tumbleweed loot, and Antlion is close by.
  3. Don't forget about food โ€” Summer heat spoils food faster. Crock Pot meals spoil slower than raw ingredients. Keep a few extra Ice Boxes.
  4. Caves are 100% safe โ€” If you're struggling with Summer, just move underground for 20 days. No overheating, no wildfires, no Antlion sinkholes. The only threats are cave-specific (depth worms, bunnymen if you carry meat).
  5. Summer is for ruins โ€” The Labyrinth and Ruins have a constant temperature. Bring a Miner Hat, lanterns, and go clear them for Thulecite and Ancient gear.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Base Location Strategy (All Seasons)

The ideal base location balances access to multiple biomes with defensibility and seasonal comfort.

Location Checklist

Factor Why It Matters
๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ Road access Faster travel between biomes
๐ŸŒฑ Near Pig King Easy gold, pig trading, werepig farming
๐Ÿ— Pig village nearby Free labour, protection, easy meat
๐Ÿชจ Rockyland nearby Boulders for stone, gold, flint
๐ŸŒฟ Grassland nearby Grass tufts, rabbit holes, beefalo
๐ŸŒฒ Forest nearby Logs, treeguards, mushrooms
๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ Spider biome nearby Silk, monster meat, glands
๐Ÿ’ง Ponds nearby Fishing, ice in winter, frog legs
๐Ÿœ๏ธ Desert (Oasis) access Summer safety, tumbleweeds
๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ Sinkhole access Cave exploration, underground refuge

Seasonal Base Shifts

Season Primary Base Secondary
๐Ÿ‚ Autumn Your main base (anywhere well-connected) โ€”
โ„๏ธ Winter Main base (close to Walrus Camp biome) Fridge + fire pit near MacTusk
๐ŸŒง๏ธ Spring Main base (with lightning rods) โ€”
โ˜€๏ธ Summer Oasis Desert base OR Underground base Move only if wildfires threaten main base

๐Ÿ“ Final Note: DST's seasons are designed to push you out of your comfort zone. Embrace the chaos โ€” each season brings unique resources and opportunities that make the next cycle easier. A well-prepared player doesn't just survive the seasons; they thrive in every one of them.
